Tolmachoff Farm Field Trip

Picking carrots.

Playing in the corn kernels.

"Train ride" pulled by tractor.

Pumping water.

We went to Tolmachoff farm today. The kids got to pick carrots,2 types of lettuce, beets, sweet chard, onions, & cilantro. They also planted corn. They went on a train ride pulled by a tractor, pumped water, played in corn kernels, ate ice cream, & saw lots of animals. They didn't want to feed the calves their bottles though. That didn't matter because the two calves sucked them down so quickly only a few kids got the chance. We saw lots of goats, ducks & geese, horses, calves, pigs, chicks,an ostrich, turkeys (yum),& a bunny. They had a lot of fun & want to go back. They really want to pick the corn they planted.

While we were waiting for everyone to arrive Joshua told me he would not want to live on a farm because of all the poop. I said the flies like the poop. Then he says he doesn't want to be a fly either.

Good times!

Fashion Show

My beautiful girl & my hubby who doesn't look at the camera.
This was outfit #2

Todd modeled too as he needed a new pair of jeans-you get 25% off whatever you model.

Outfit #1

Before the show started.

Today was Hannah's 3rd fashion show at the base. She got to model 2 outfits this time. She's getting to be a real pro. Todd participated this time as well. She always enjoys this. I'm thankful one of my wonderful co-workers worked my shift so I could be there.

We have a field trip to a farm next week on Wednesday. Of course we are looking forward to celebrating Easter. Gotta love how much Jesus loves us!

I think that catches me up on pictures. Whew!

White Tank Mountains

Earlier this month we went to the White Tanks since we had to miss the annual hoedown with HEofS when Todd was in Texas.

St. Patrick's Day Party

Here's a few green pictures of our St. Patricks' Day party with HEofS. We brought rainbow cupcakes that were a huge pain to make & will never make again. Hannah won some cupcakes in a musical chairs/cupcake walk type game. She chose store bought cupcakes for her Daddy.

Basketball Silver Medals

Here's the kids with their basketball teams after winning silver medals.

Art & Poetry Ice Cream Social

Enjoying the ice cream art.

A small sample of their artwork from drawings & paintings to sand art, perler beads, & sea urchins made with playdough & toothpicks (that was a pre-Sea World trip craft).

With their certificates.

I guess I'm a little behind as I still try to get used to the way my new camera works on the computer. I was going to post a few Valentines pictures but they were sideways & I don't know how to get them upright. No biggie. I'll just start with pictures from earlier this month.

The kids went to our annual Art & Poetry Ice cream Social with HEofS. They show off their art & afterward we create an ice cream sundae. Always fun! This happened to be the weekend Todd was in Texas so he missed it. The kids had fun as usual. Hannah was so inspired when we got home that night that she painted several pictures & wrote one poem before bed.

See below for the slide show for our San Diego trip. It was a pain to make so you all better appreciate it. I won't bore you with the details but I hope you enjoy it.

The kids had fun at their Art & Poetry Ice Cream Social last week. Todd was asked to go to San Antonio,TX, last week to help with the grand opening of an air force base exchange store. He was gone Wednesday night to Saturday evening. Since we had to get him from the airport we missed the hoedown at the White Tanks.

We had a visit for 2 nights from my Mom earlier this week.
We were too late to get tickets to the Blackhawks game later this month so we'll have to see it at a bar or restaurant. Bummer. I am glad about saving money though. Hannah's supposed to be in another fashion show at the base later this month too.

Basketball is over & both kids earned silver medals. I think they'd have won gold had the teams been evened up better talent/skill/experience/size-wise. We're taking a break from baseball but will do hockey in late April/May.

Joshua made me laugh so hard doing school today and unfortunately it made him cry but it WAS funny. In language arts he has finished up all his 1st grade books so I started the 2nd grade books today. In the first lesson it explained about breaking up big spelling words into syllables to help remember them. The directions asked him to study 3 words on the previous page & then spell them without looking. If he got them right he could color in a big star. He starts writing & I check email. I see his first word is correct even though it's kinda big & slanted a little. I go back to the computer while he tries the 2nd word. I see he has written it right over the star he's supposed to color. I ask why he did that. He gives me a look with his hands outstretched & says "Well, it's hard to write without looking!". I bust up laughing because he takes "without looking" to mean do it with your eyes shut instead of "no peeking". Gotta love him!

My darlings are arguing so that's it for now:o)

March Birthday

Just one birthday this month:
My Mom-March 7th
We love you & hope you have a great day!

I'm still working on the slide show of San Diego pictures but if you are on Facebook I put a bunch up on there.

March events include an art & poetry fair, hoedown at the White Tank Mountains,& St. Patrick's Day party all with HEofS. Also, a Blackhawks game and Hannah is in another fashion show at the base. Basketball will be over 2 weeks from tomorrow & I'm looking forward to a Wednesday break of sports for 6 weeks or so. Just until hockey starts sometime in late April/May. It's time for baseball & that's the one sport they don't play.

We will be doing the Disney "Give a day, Get a Disney Day" volunteer promotion later today. I had seen an opportunity before but never heard back from the company & then it was never listed again until last week. We gather up 40+ gently used or new books for needy kids from Title 1 schools. Then we decorated a bankers box & put all the books in it & the kids get to take the box home with them to keep. This fits the kids so well as they love books & they don't have to talk to strangers! We collected about 40 books off their shelves & I bought some more at Savers so we were able to fill the box with over 50 books. I feel a little guilty for getting a day at Disneyland for so little effort but I would like to continue this idea throughout the year. So, If you ever have kids books to donate some where then give them to me! K-5th grade books are needed in good shape. Hannah also made bookmarks to donate with the box. I put them in an envelope on the side of the box. That was our own little "extra" idea. We deliver it to the organization today. Then we'll use our free day to upgrade our tickets on our next visit.
