Cheaper by the Dozen-Opening Night

Hannah's picture & bio on the cast poster

This last picture is when I took Hannah and a couple friends to go watch the other cast perform on Friday night.

Hannah performed in Cheaper by the Dozen this past Thursday & Saturday. Of course I think she was amazing. Here's a few shots from after the Thursday show. We saw the other cast Friday night. Then we had a TBQ meet Saturday AM and her last performance on Saturday night. She's sad it's over, as usual. At least she doesn't have as long to wait for the next semester as when the Spring show is over. I'm sure the first day of class will sneak up on us as it is just next month. She'll be split from some of her friends though as she's choosing the high school class. They'll be performing Godspell.

I'll get some more pictures up from the play from Saturday next.

TBQ #2

Just one picture from the 2nd TBQ match. It was a crazy day with one girl from each team needing to leave early to get to their call time for their afternoon theater performance. They had to leave before the lunch break. Here's a picture of Hannah and her team. They went 7-1 while their sister team went 4-4 on the day. Hannah is in 4th place overall after 2 meets. Three of the top 5 are God's Girlz. Joshua was an official scorekeeper for the first time. He made only a couple small mistakes-much less than some of the adults I've officiated with.

We were at quizzing from 8:30-2 and hurried home so Hannah could shower before HER call time at 5pm. Cheaper by the Dozen pictures coming up next.

Spirit Day/JBQ/Play=Misc pictures

Pic from the 2nd meet of JBQ
Sports Spirit Day at the park. All 3 of our teams were represented above.
Then I had the kids change to humor me. They love me!
Hannah got tickets for her b-day from her friend to see a play that friend was performing in.
Here's all the TBQ God's Girlz at the play.

So here is a catch up of pictures. Most are self explanatory.

I will give more detail to Joshua's 2nd JBQ meet a couple weeks ago. Here's a team point breakdown of how each match went:

Round 1: Compass Kidz 180 to 40
Round 2: Compass Kidz 260 to 70
Round 3: Compass Kidz 275 to 40
Round 4: Compass Kidz 330 to 0 (yes, that's a "0", not a typo)
Round 5: Compass Kidz 260 to 30

Obviously they had an amazing day. They are still undefeated and in 1st place right now. Joshua had 350 points for the day coming in 2nd place to one of his team mates again. So we had 4 team members in the top 10 this meet. We had 1st, 2nd, 7th, & 9th. There's a girl on another team who is always close to reaching Joshua's scoring so he's determined to hang on to 2nd place individual scorer all season. I'm assuming there will be no way to catch his team mate so he's happy with #2. Actually, he'll be happy to make it to the top 10 by the end of the season.

Hannah has a meet in December which also happens to be the day of her play. THAT will be an exhausting day/evening. She had to do this before for Wild West Tales so it CAN be done!

Hannah's Minion Party

Assortment of minion goodies & paraphernalia. From bottom left: goodie bags, cups, paper minions to hide around the house for the find the hidden minion game, tattoos, unicorn tail for the pin the tail on the unicorn game. Back row from left: goodie bag, guess the # of candies games, unicorn horns. The containers in the back had candy in them & whoever guessed the closest number in each got to keep the container. The purple minion had purple Sixlets, the yellow one had Lemonheads, & the last one had Runts BUT they had to only guess the banana pieces in that one.
 Minion pen & pencil.
Sign I had Todd draw for the bathroom door.
 Cookie robot.
 The cake!
 Our address.
The necessities: Food, water, and a pee pee & poo poo spot.
 Showing off their ninja skills.
Preparing to quiz on Despicable Me trivia.
Thinking of keeping these year round......just kidding (kinda).

The kids actually enjoyed the box of shame. It was not a punishment in the least.
 Birthday girl.
Hannah's Minion themed party was this afternoon. I had way too much fun planning for it. I'm pretty sure everyone had fun. Games I planned were a find the hidden minion game, pin the tail on the unicorn, trivia, and a guess who type game. All the kids had a character from one of the two movies taped to their backs. They had to ask questions about who they were & then guess who they were. We had snacks, cake, cookies, & ice cream. What's not to like? Especially when there's a minion theme! Now, what to do about Joshua's b-day in 6-7 months????

Joshua as Andrew Shaw & Hannah as a hockey puck

On Halloween we went to a church festival. Joshua wore this jersey and went as Andrew Shaw from game 6 of the SCF. That was the game "we" won the cup and Andrew Shaw took a puck to the face but came back out to play. One of my favorite pictures from the series is him holding up the cup while blood drips from his face. I used electrical tape to make his name & number on the back of the jersey. Hannah dressed all in black as the "puck". She had a sign on her front and back that said "made in Slovakia" like it says on pucks. I may be the only person who gets this idea but the kids are great to humor me.

God's Girlz two-team TBQ Premier

Both God's Girlz teams about to compete for REAL for the first time.
The most amazing bunch of girlz!
Family shot.

Hannah had her first TBQ match yesterday. Not only did God's Girlz debut in the "A" league but there are now TWO God's Girlz teams. Not to confuse anyone but we now have God's Girlz/Grace Keepers and God's Girlz/Kingdom Seekers. Hannah is on the Grace Keepers team. Last year's team had 4 girls & one girl would always "sub" waiting for a girl at the table to quiz out so she could enter the game. They were a powerhouse team but adding 2 more girls would mean 3 girls had to sit out & wait for a turn at the table. That's how the two teams were formed. Everyone is at the table & we have no subs. Got it?

Sooooooo, personally, the biggest news from yesterday is that Hannah was the #1 individual scorer. She earned 1070 points! Her team scored a total of 1945 points. They were the first place team yesterday overall. But there are no awards at each meet. That happens at the end. If she keeps up this pace, she'll be a top scorer, I'm sure. She also quizzed out in each of the 8 rounds. That means she answered 5 questions correctly, earned 20 bonus points, and had to leave the table. That's a good thing! They were 7-1 for the day. They lost their first match of the day but won all the rest.

Her sister team had a record of 5 wins & 3 losses and came in 3rd place for the day BUT the difference between 2nd & 3rd place was only 5 points. Very close. Five of the six girls had multiple quiz outs.

After getting home around 4pm, Hannah had a short rest before going to her friends' house for a celebratory slumber party. Not much slumber happened so she's napping now. She & her friends deserved it!
Here's a picture I stole from their coach. I had to be an official so I only got to see her quiz when she came through my room. There would be more pictures if I had been following her!

State Fair 2013

Hannah's Hobbit House cake. Picture was taken at home before the cake got old looking at the Fair. She got 1st place (and $5).
Joshua's minion cupcakes. I can't remember now if these took 2nd or 3rd....
 Hannah's melted crayon art.
Hannah's "experimental" minion art. The Minion is made with shaving cream, glue, & food coloring so it's a little puffy.
 Joshua and his minion art.
Joshua and his melted crayon art. These were fun to make.
Joshua's excellent mixed media art. Too bad the judges must be bitter Coyotes fans as it didn't place. Seriously? Look at how awesome the Blackhawk is drawn!
Joshua's recycled art (Hannah made one too but without the paint splatter). The "tree" is made of brown paper bags for the trunk & cut up toilet paper tubes for the leaves.
 Joshua's watercolor giraffes.

The State Fair was pretty successful in terms of ribbons & prize money. We found all their student art (free to enter but lots of competition from public schools AND no prize money),home art/crafts ($1 per entry, less competition because of the fee, & prize money if they place), and culinary arts items (also $1 per entry & prize money if they place).

Let's just say they entered a lot more stuff than the pictures show. Between them they earned 28 ribbons and $70. Not too shabby!

JBQ Meet #1 for Compass Kidz

 The 2013-14 JBQ Team!!!!!
 A picture at the buzzers.
 Silly faces (above)
 Cupcake break (above)
3 of the top 10 high scorers.
Joshua earned 2nd place in high individual points (435 on the day).

Joshua and his team, Compass Kidz, had their first meet yesterday. They had 6 rounds of quizzing and won each round! They went undefeated & had 3 kids in the top 10 of high point scorers for the day in their league. They are in the "B" league-meaning they are first time quizzers. Hannah was in the "A" league when she started because 3 of the girls on her team had already been in JBQ.

The kids were a little nervous. At least Joshua had the "experience" of knowing what to expect from watching Hannah's meets. He has one teammate who knew what to expect because he has sisters on TBQ with Hannah. But four of the kids had no clue what was going to happen. They did amazing. I actually felt a little guilty at how badly they beat some of their opponents. But their hard work paid off. As long as they don't assume they'll always win & don't become prideful, then I hope they can always strive to do their best even when they make mistakes (which they did).

Here's how the rounds went down:
1. Compass Kidz 205 points to -25 (this one I felt REALLY bad about)
2. 230 points to 100 points
3. Ended in a tie at 80 points so we had an overtime tie breaker. After 3 OT questions, Compass Kidz won with 100 points to 90 points.
4. 225 points to 40 points
5. 240 points to 20 points
6. 160 points to 80 points (this was against another team who had not lost a match yet)

So we're pretty proud of Joshua for his accomplishment. It's more than the facts/scriptures he has memorized (although that's important). The fact that he wanted to do this after saying "no" and that he buzzes in/answers the questions is huge for this shy kid. There was a time he wouldn't go up on a stage in front of a 100+ people to retrieve a ribbon. He went up there with no problem. It's a breakthrough!

He seems to be enjoying practices and being friendly with his team mates. His next meet is in November. Hannah's first TBQ meet is in a couple weeks. She'll be quizzed over 1st & 2nd Thessalonians.

JBQ-Here we go again!

I hope everyone understands the difference between JBQ & TBQ.
JBQ=Junior Bible Quiz
TBQ=Teen Bible Quiz

I thought when Hannah moved up to TBQ from JBQ that that would be the end of JBQ for us. Our friend has put together a JBQ from our church and guess who (after saying "no" many times) has changed his mind and want to participate? If you guessed Joshua, you'd be shocked AND right! He's been asked to learn the 30 point questions which are harder but there are fewer of them. He's had 2 practices so far. The first match is in October. Hannah will be helping with the officiating for JBQ. Todd designed a team shirt that we hope to get printed soon. Get used to his team name:
Compass Kidz
There are 6 kids (4 boys & 2 girls)

Hannah's 1st TBQ match is in October too. She has all of 1st & 2nd Thessalonians memorized so far and is working on 1st Timothy now.

Joshua's dodgeball team, the Waffles (don't ask), had playoffs last week. They didn't do too well but he wants to play again. Hannah has decided to play too.

We'll be dropping off artwork at the fairgrounds soon. The kids did a lot of great stuff.

No new pictures. Sorry!

Wet N Wild Day 9-2-13
